Folks, we are in the beginning stages of our club's 18th show to be held again at San Jacinto State Park. Last year we donated a record $1000 directly back to the park and would like to see this amount above last years. The park has always been a gracious host to us and fellow v-dubbers. If you have ideas as to what we may newly incorporate into the show, please let me know. The flyer will soon be in the works as will all the other logistical info, i.e., times, number of trophies, judged classes, etc.
What I do know is that we will raffle off another 1776 as it was such a huge success and if your like me, would love to win an engine. And this is where a lot of you can help like last year. If you have any new or good, used parts to donate, let me know as well.
Look here for any updates to the show on May17/18. Very Happy

Raffle block found. Donated by Bill Lera. Thanks!!!!

It'll be shedding some weight but looks to be intact.

So far, the case looks to have never been opened for any reason. I could find no marks denoting a line bore or case deck. Pulled oil pump and cover and they had the VW stamp on them.

This is a quick list of what will need replacing:
1. oil pump and cover.
2. pushrod tubes.
3. cylinder heads
4. pistons and cylinders
5. bearings (main, rod and cam)
6. flywheel
7. possibly the rocker arms and shafts.

I will know more when I split it.

Oil drain plate. Stuff was thick.

Oil strainer was full of junk too.

Picture of the pushrod tubes.

Looking like the rocker shafts and arms will need replacing.

This is a shot of the inside of a piston. I don't know what that junk is hanging from the top of the cylinder.

More pics later...

Here is a shot of the other cylinder head. The engine will have brand, spanking new cylinder heads cut for 90.5mm P&C's.

These are the original low compression pistons the engine had in. Note the small indention in the middle. These will be replaced with new P&C's aw well..

And here is the short block ready for the trip to be checked out. From what I can tell, this case has never been align bored or had the thrust cut.

MMMMMMMMMMM, that motor is nice! I've seen one or two like this in my time, nothing a little cleaning up can't take care of.

Here is one half of the case. Not bad looking inside.

Here is a shot of the #4 bearing saddle. I ran my fingernail across the surface and felt no real ridge. May not need an align bore.

Here is the crank journal #4. Still mirror-like. May end up re-using the crank as it may need just a polishing.

THis is the only problem I have found inside the case. No marks left by the tappet in the bore.

Backside of the engine.

Close up of the deck, crank and rod...

Front of the engine showing the golden pulley... Laughing

More to come...

Here are the cylinder heads that will be machined to fit the 90.5mm P&C's. The heads were donated by KAR Parts and Fountain of Youth VW. Both of which are sponsors for the club. Thanx... Very Happy

Here is the box that is holding the new 90.5mm piston and cylinders. Notice that one is missing, but on previous pictures is being used to set deck height and ultimately, the compression ratio. This engine will be set at 7.8 to 1 (static).

And these are the new pushrod tubes donated by John and Trandy Poncio.
